In simple terms, child advocates strive to improve the lives of children and their families. They are the watchdogs for children in this country.

Child advocates educate and empower the public at large as well as the media and business leaders, to act on behalf of children.

Who can be an advocate ?


EVERYONE ! Can be an advocate for young children.

You can be a child advocate by:

As a parent

-Drop into your child's place of care at various times, unannounced

-Pay attention to your child's actions and the way they speak

- Document anything that concerns you such as changes in behavior

-Read articles about what consists of quality care

-Contact your local child care licensing agency with your questions/concerns

As a provider

-Reporting abuses to the regulating agencies

-Documenting behavior inappropriate in the child care industry

-Being an active in professional organizations such as NAEYC and Dare to Care

-Remembering to take care of yourself

-Be a mentor

-Voice your concerns to legislators and other early childhood advocates
